Discover The Breakfast Bar

Walking into The Breakfast Bar for the first time at 3404 E 4th St, Long Beach, CA 90814, United States felt like stepping into a friend’s kitchen rather than a diner. I’d heard locals toss around the words best brunch in town, so I decided to test it myself after a morning surf session. The place was buzzing before 9 a.m., yet the line moved fast because the staff clearly has their rhythm down.

My go-to order that day was their Hawaiian-style French toast with macadamia nuts and fresh fruit. It landed on the table in under ten minutes, which is impressive considering the full house. As someone who’s worked in hospitality, I always notice kitchen workflow. Here, you can see the cooks plating with purpose, not rushing, but not letting plates die in the window either. That balance is why reviews constantly praise both speed and quality.

The menu is huge without being messy. You’ve got classics like fluffy pancakes and breakfast burritos, but also playful twists-think spam hash or ube waffles. According to the National Restaurant Association, over 60% of diners say they return to a restaurant because of menu variety paired with consistency, and this spot nails both. Every visit I’ve had, whether weekday or weekend, the eggs are cooked exactly how I ask, which says a lot about training and attention to detail.

One thing that sets this place apart is how it handles dietary needs. My sister is gluten sensitive, and most diners make her feel like a burden. Here, the server immediately walked her through options and even explained how they avoid cross-contamination on the griddle. That level of transparency lines up with recommendations from the FDA on allergen awareness in food service, and it builds real trust.

The vibe matters too. The walls are covered in bright colors and local art, making it Instagram-friendly without screaming for attention. I chatted with a couple at the next table who drive in from Seal Beach every other Sunday. They told me they started coming after reading about the restaurant in a Long Beach foodie blog and now treat it as their standing brunch date. That’s the kind of organic loyalty most places dream of.

I’ve also ordered takeout a few times when I couldn’t deal with the weekend wait. Their online ordering system is straightforward, and the food actually travels well. The fried chicken biscuit stays crisp, and the gravy comes sealed separately so nothing turns soggy. Not many breakfast spots think that far ahead.

If I had to point out a limitation, it’s the parking. Street spots around 4th Street can be tight, especially during peak brunch hours. I usually plan to walk a couple of blocks rather than circle the area in frustration. It’s a small tradeoff for what you get on the plate, but it’s worth knowing before you show up hungry.

Overall, the combination of a creative menu, fast service, and staff who genuinely care makes this place stand out in Long Beach’s crowded diner scene. From what I’ve experienced and what countless online reviews echo, it’s not just hype-it’s a restaurant that understands breakfast culture and executes it with heart and precision.

  • A really fun and comfortable place with a great menu selection of enhanced breakfast and lunch items suitable for all times a day. The staff were friendly and accommodating and seemed genuinely happy. The location was in a primarily residential area with decent street parking. A fun and delicious experience.

  • Went on a friend’s recommendation. I love what this place stands for (a sense of community and friendship and breaking bread together). Thoroughly enjoyed it. Sat at the bar and abided by the day drinking mantra!

  • Been here twice now, and was able to sit at the same table and have Johnny as my waiter both times; always a pleasure Back in July '25 I had the Country Fried Chicken Breakfast and the potatoe pancake was not what I thought it would be, cake/breaded, but was quite nice in the potatoe texture and very tasty! Great forward to October '25 and changed it up and had the Breakfast burrito, and boy did this pack a lotta love in one easy to eat package Had the the wife's leftover Breakie Sammie and "WOW" is all I can say A must try is the sausage links; tasty and not your typical small sized links... Lastly the coffee decaf is regular is top notch(Capistrano from Golden State Roasters here in Placentia California)

  • I’d give 6 stars for the whole experience if I could…this place, the people and the food are all wonderful. I had the seasonal bulgogi Benedict and it was hella good. The coffee was terrific and even better at a San Jose Carl. Angela aka Vangela was awesome too, full of light and happiness…perfect vibes and way to star the day!
